Fight Quest - Israel KRAV MAGA

Fight Quest, airing Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT. A blend of cultural immersion and good old-fashioned smackdown, the series follows seasoned mixed martial arts fighter Jimmy Smith and 25-year-old rookie Doug Anderson as they travel the globe, adding fight styles from Kali to kickboxing to their repertoire.

I gotta' say, this was the worst representation of Krav Maga of any I have ever seen. As an instructor of nearly 10 years, I found it empty of any of the elitism KM has earned as a force on force system. My best guess is the Discovery Channel's production crew decided they did not want the same old stuff seeen on it's competitor show "Human Weapon". While this is a novel concept and I agree that people should see something "different"; they sacrificed WAY too much and ended up with an empty product. It's doubtless the best film ended up on the editor's floor. I suggest they try again. This time, showing the quality and skill of both Doug and Jimmy as well as that of the instructors they choose - even if they are the same instructors as this time. Perhaps even producing a second installment using leftover film from this venture.

where can we learn about the real KM then?

The Human Weapon episode on KM actually shows MUCH more technique with a similar graduation rite. You can buy it on I-Tunes for $1.99. Just got to the I-Tunes store and search Human Waepon, all the past episodes are available there. Also, Moni Aizik's website has loads of articles and videos to go through: www.CommandoKravMaga.com

Mr. Aizik was responsible for evolving KM into much of what is seen today in the IDF. Many organizations have sprung up since Imi Lichrtenfeld's death, but Moni Aizik is the last living person to have personally assisted in developing modern KM. Much if not most, of what is taught in other organizations (other than Commmando Krav Maga) is now referred to as Traditional KM. Basically, this just means what Imi originally taught. Any group still connected to KM's military roots have evolved their techniques and training to match the needs of the current IDF soldier and Special Forces operatives.

I hope this helps. Email me from my website if you need more help.

eh , im sry to dissapoint your way of seeing it hillis , cause you are Deadwrong here.. there is a difference between Krav maga you instruct , and krav maga IDF .. As an instructor you should know that ... 10 years? i curtainly doubt that . There are Two krav maga ways .. one is Imy based , and then IDF based .. 2 partners different outcome.. Imy did it as a self defence on the street which means hit and run .. and IDF is hit and kill . Cause running is not an option .. what we saw here is an IDF krav maga . And it is Exacly like this .. and i know cause i followed it in the IDF .

Shai Bar.

I have started training Krav Maga a few months ago, and what I have found out so far is that Krav Maga is about technique and tactics. It has unbelievably simple and effective moves to protect yourself. Maybe the Krav Maga presented in the episode is the IDF version, but it seems more to me as a dogfight and not the intelligent Krav Maga I know. If you want to know Krav Maga, watch the Human Weapon episode. If you want to see dogfights, watch the Fight Quest episode.

I can respect your view regarding the IDF. I have trained with members of the Orev Golani and have seen the raw agression training by being the guy in the middle. HOWEVER, only those enlisted or blessed enough to experience it the way Doug and Jimmy or myself have can truly appreciate what they went through. Again, the Human Weapon episode is a much better picture of Krav Maga - in my opinion. BTW, I have since discovered that Mr. Aizik may have embellished his military record and would like to retract that info - for now.....
