The Ultimate Fighter 7 cast rumor

Rumors — The Ultimate Fighter 7

Debuts: April 2
Broadcast: Spike TV

After a stunning performance in his last outing, a knockout win over Terry Martin, former Ultimate Fighter season 1 cast member, Chris “The Crippler” Leben will return to the Octagon on March 1 and face new American Top Team middleweight, Alessio Sakara, as confirmed to by sources close to the fighter.

Leben was coming off of back to back losses prior to his last fight, and while many expected Terry Martin to win and look towards a potential title match-up with Anderson Silva down the road, the part time Team Quest member spoiled Martin's hopes with a 3rd round knockout.

Training primarily out of the ICON gym in Hawaii now, Leben looks to get another win under his belt facing a very tough test in Alessio Sakara, who will make his debut at 185lbs at UFC 82 in March.

Sakara, currently 3-3 in the UFC, made the decision to move to the middleweight division prior to his last fight, a TKO over King of the Cage veteran, James Lee at UFC 80 on Jan 19.

Now working with arguably the top camp in all of MMA, American Top Team, Sakara is dropping to 185lbs and looking to compete with the top names and it starts with Chris Leben.

UFC 82’s star studded card will feature a main event pitting middleweight champion Anderson Silva against Dan Henderson, and will also showcase a number of top ranked fighters in what is expected to be one of the biggest shows the promotion will hold in the first half of 2008.

No word whether Leben versus Sakara will make the main card, but it is believed at this time that the middleweight bout will likely be relegated to the preliminary card before the televised portion of the pay-per-view.

Paul Daley vs. Sam Morgan

Not only was Friday night’s ShoXC a showcase for fighters such as Eddie Alvarez, Paul Daley and Tonya Evinger to establish themselves in the ranks of EliteXC, but it was also a platform for a significant announcement for the U.K.-based Cage Rage fight promotion.

During Friday’s telecast on Showtime, it was announced that the March 8 Cage Rage event will air on Showtime. Cage Rage 25 will be part of a boxing and mixed martial arts double-header. It will be shown “immediately after the conclusion of the boxing broadcast.”

The main event of Ken Shamrock vs. Robert Berry is scheduled to air on the telecast, although no other bouts have been announced at this time. It is also not yet known how many fights will air.

It was also announced during Friday night’s telecast that there are plans for future ShoXC events on Friday, March 21 and Friday, April 4.

Chuck Liddell to fight Keith Jardine

In a recent interview Chuck gave some insight into his next opponent, read below.

"My next fight will probably be in the summer and I am thinking about Jardine since Jackson is already scheduled to fight (Forrest Griffin). I can’t wait around (for Jackson). I love the sport and I think I have a couple years left in me. I’m a very competitive person. I don’t even like to lose at things I’m not good at.”

Tito Ortiz vs Lyoto Machida Confirmed for May

Reported By Sherdog
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz (Pictures) has agreed to face undefeated Lyoto Machida (Pictures) on the UFC's May 24 card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Talk of a potential Ortiz-Machida bout began earlier this month. Ortiz (15-5-1) confirmed Monday on Fight Network Radio that he would fulfill his current contract with Zuffa against the 29-year-old Brazilian.

"The Huntington Beach Bad Boy," who turns 33 on Wednesday, competed only once in 2007, fighting to a hotly disputed draw with TUF 2 victor Rashad Evans (Pictures). The former 205-pound champion has more recently been seen as part of the cast of Donald Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice" on NBC.

The once-enigmatic Machida went from curiosity to contender in 2007, winning each of his four fights. Machida (12-0) punctuated his '07 campaign with a domination of Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (Pictures) in the Octagon in December.

The Ortiz-Machida fight will likely serve as the co-feature for the May 24 UFC card, alongside the lightweight title bout between current lightweight champion B.J. Penn (Pictures) and former champion Sean Sherk (Pictures).

Randy Couture Being Sued By Zuffa

Heavyweight champ in breach of contract, MMA group claims

The strained relationship between the Ultimate Fighting Championship and its heavyweight champion Randy Couture has taken another bad turn -- directly into a Las Vegas courtroom.

Lawyers for Zuffa, LLC, the UFC's parent company, on Monday filed suit in Clark County District Court, alleging chiefly that Couture's comments about the UFC and its senior management caused the business irreparable damage and that he is in breach of the contract he signed with the company in December 2006.

"We are alleging numerous intentional torts, which have caused Zuffa and the UFC significant harm," attorney Donald J. Campbell said. "Based upon that harm we are seeking to address these matters before a court of law."

The lawsuit seeks damages in excess of $10,000 and states that the amount of both compensatory and punitive damages would be proven at trial. It also seeks an injunction restraining Couture from participating in any way in any promotion competing against the UFC.

The lawsuit is the latest episode of discord between Couture and UFC President Dana White, who said he has considered Couture a friend for eight years.

"What's really tough for me, to be honest, is we have been friends for a very long time," White said. "The hard part is that he is not living up to his obligations. Captain America is not keeping his word."

Couture is listed as the UFC heavyweight champion, even though the fighter and organization have been engaged in a public dispute that included his resignation from the company. An interim title match has been scheduled.

The tense relationship between Couture and the UFC, namely White and co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta, became public on Oct. 11 when Couture held a news conference at his Las Vegas gym. Couture detailed his frustrations with the company and announced he was resigning from the UFC.

Breaking News: Saturday's WCO Event Cancelled

From Sherdog's Josh Gross:

Saturday's Valor promoted World Cagefighting Organization card at the San Diego Sports Arena has been cancelled by the California State Athletic Commission due to funding issues, learned Saturday afternoon.

Problems arose Friday evening after the CSAC learned that funding had not been secured to pay the athletes who were to compete on the card.

"At the eleventh hour, the commission was informed there were insufficient funds to pay the fighters," CSAC executive director Armando Garcia told "In the end, we had to cancel the event."

A deadline of 10 a.m. PST was set for Saturday morning for Valor promoter Rick Bassman to prove that the fighters' pay was secured. After Bassman failed to meet the time limit, he was given until 12 p.m. PST.

In a last ditch effort to save the card, WCO officials tried to apply for a promoter's license, but there was not enough time to complete the lengthy process. At that time, the CSAC decided to cancel the event.

As of 1:55 p.m. PST Saturday, WCO representative Bruce Bellocchi told that he had not been informed that the show had been cancelled and that he had secured funding and was attempting to show documentation to that affect. The WCO brand was attached to the event, which was promoted by Valor fighting.

After a conversation with the San Diego sports Arena box-office, Garcia informed that sales for the event were extremely low.

As per CSAC regulations, fighters are guaranteed 20 percent of their purse, which must be paid by Jan. 18.

BJ Penn vs Duane Ludwig- K1 fight

Shortly after defeating Matt Hughes in UFC 46, Penn signed to fight in the K-1 organization. The UFC promptly stripped him of the welterweight title belt, claiming Penn breached his contract and that the signing constituted him refusing to defend his title. Penn filed a suit against the UFC and publicized his side of the conflict, claiming his UFC contract had already expired. Penn filed a motion to stop the UFC from awarding a new welterweight title, that motion was denied.

In his first K-1 fight, Penn fought again at welterweight (170 lb) and defeated Duane Ludwig at the 2004 K-1 MMA Romanex show in under five minutes.

Rich Franklin's father Passes Away from a Heart Attack

UFC middleweight mainstay Rich Franklin's father died of a heart attack Tuesday, the fighter's manager, Monte Cox, confirmed. No other information is available at this time.

The former champion underwent surgery last week in Las Vegas to repair a torn medial collateral ligament in his knee following his second loss to current titleholder Anderson Silva at UFC 77 in Cincinnati in October. The surgery went well, according to Cox, and Franklin is already putting weight on the leg.

Recently re-signed with the UFC, Cox said Franklin (24-3) aims to step back into the Octagon on Saturday, April 19 against Travis Lutter at an event planned for the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. Rehabilitation and Franklin's loss of his father could effect that timetable, Cox said.

Franklin, 33, collected seven victories in the UFC before falling to Silva via a first-round TKO at UFC 64 in October 2006. Franklin (22-3) nursed his career back into title contention with victories over Jason MacDonald and Yushin Okami before facng Silva a second time.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Lutter (9-4) has been inactive since his loss to Silva at UFC 67 nearly a year ago, suffering from neck and back injuries. The 34-year-old Lutter opted to forgo surgery in favor of natural recovery.
